Equity Design Challenge Coming to Oregon Schools in 2021

Construct inspires students to create equitable learning environments

PORTLAND, Ore. – December 3, 2020 – Building a more equitable society begins with our schools, and now students have a central role in redesigning their schools to create more equitable learning experiences for all.

Construct announces the Future of Equitable Schools design challenge #ORdesignchallenge, coming to Oregon high schools in 2021.

With support from industry partners, sponsors, and a $30,000 grant from Meyer Memorial Trust, Construct plans to run this equity design challenge across 12 Oregon high schools to support students and educators as they work towards transforming their schools into more equitable places and spaces.

David Douglas High School’s Black Student Union paved the way, recently sharing learnings from their recent equity design challenge, facilitated by Construct.

Construct convenes educators, schools, industry partners, and mentors, then creates space for young people to engage in deeper learning and build creative confidence through design challenges that address real world problems.

Since 2013, Construct has engaged 80 schools and 600 educators to reach more than 30,000 students across Oregon through programs including: design challenges for students; Breakaway workshops for teachers; and the School Retool Fellowship for principals & assistant principals, a Stanford d.School K12 Lab & IDEO initiative.
